Beauty tips & news from rouge artists and bloggers!

nmorris-signature_bottlesWell, I had to let you rouge bloggers know about our newest fragrance collection from Neil Morris.  Each and every one of these parfums is scrumptious and very complex.  The parfums last and last due to the 22% perfume oil content vs. most eau de toilettes at 8-12%.  If you love the fragrance, you’ll love that you and those around you can experience the beautiful notes!  My personal favorite is Coral and I love Clear, but you’ll have to figure out which one you like.  Learn more below!

fragrances that live and move, that dance on the skin

For over 30 years Boston-based Neil Morris has been blending custom fragrances for individuals and retailers.  Neil’s gift is in his ability to link the brain’s centers that relate scent and emotion.  Neil has fully experienced and mapped the vivid spectrum of emotions that exciting aromas can create.  This is the source of his inspiration and passion for Neil Morris Fragrances.

Over the years Neil has created a catalog of over one hundred fragrances, most inspired by his own personal experiences and memories. From that catalog, he’s chosen eight of his favorites to share with you.

“For me, fragrances are like dreams. I look for an emotional response, a connection. Fragrances are a reflection of life and should be filled with zest, so I work to compose unusual, exotic, and memorable aromas to help inspire dreams.  I hope that you will share my passion and get excited about trying new scents: be daring, experiment, and have fun! Embrace fragrance as another way to express your inner self!”, says Morris

Beauty junkies can spend years perfecting their primping arsenals. If you’d prefer to skip beta-testing your makeup bag, though, let Rouge founder Ann Supple Massey do the work for you. A former cosmetics buyer at Filene’s, Massey vets every product with her staff, choosing only those deemed both innovative and effective. That makes for an appealing mix of old favorites (Nars, B. Kamins) and up-and-comers like Caudalie. Those who suffer from overstimulation at Sephora will appreciate Rouge’s manageable inventory and elegant interior, while cosmoholics love the staff’s exhaustive knowledge and occasional in-store appearances by beauty luminary Paula Dorf. Ok ladies, this fall is all about breaking the rules! Heavy lipliner, blue eyeshadow and big hair. In other words, the eighties are back! And since I am a proud member of the class of ‘87, I say bring it on. Here are some fabulous examples, of the old way and the new translation, as well as a few fierce interpretations. We better stock up on Stila Cobalt Smudgpot!

OK, let me first say I am from the class of ‘87, so our summers consisted of laying out, drenched in baby oil mixed with iodine and checking our tan lines while planning how to get our hair really big. I am quite sure we must have looked like stranded wet seals all lined up in a row.

So, I am definitely going to pay for the sun worshipping, but I have spent the last 17 years trying to reverse it. My clients ask me what I use for skincare when they find out I am turning the big 40, so here is my own little anti-aging recipe. Yes, I  do spend time and money on my face, I figure it doesn’t matter how nice my shoes are if my skin looks dull and tired:

1. Omega Oil- I swear by this supplement, I love the Trader Joe’s brand, it is inexpensive and no fishy taste. Omega’s have been shown to be beneficial to heart, brain and skin, I am a true believer!

2. I alternate every other night with vitamin c and retinol based serums. I love the Cellex-C, and the Glotherappeutics Super Serum, then I put a great moisturizer on. I have really been into the Caudalie Vinoperfect Night Cream and the Darphin Hydraskin.

3. For my eyes, I use a really good eye makeup remover, no tugging and pulling, then 3 times per week I use a retinol-based eye cream, followed by a really rich eye cream. During the day I use a lighter weight eye cream that won’t interfere with makeup. My faves are Caudalie Cleansing Water, Darphin Gentle Eye Makeup Remover, B.Kamins Eye Cream, and md formulations vitaplus anti-aging complex (for the retinol).

4. During the day I use at least an spf 15 moisturizer and glominerals foundation. Caudalie Vinoperfect 15 Day cream is lightwieght and loaded with anti-oxidents, and the glominerals foundation has a titanium dioxide based sunscreen and vitamins C, A, K, E as well as green tea.

And most importantly, when others are spending their summers getting golden, I am shunning the sun hoping my skin will forgive my for the 80’s…………. See you in the shade!

Well ladies we FINALLY made it to spring! At least the calendar says so, still a bit too nippy for the strappy sandals and hot pink pedi, but whatever! So I know you have all been waiting with baited breath to hear what rouge loves for spring, these are the trends we think can be universally flattering:

1. Eyeliner is back baby, the darker the better. Try smudging a bit of deep plum shadow with a small smudge brush if black is too dramatic for you. Stila Cassis or Paula Dorf Mardi Gras eyeshadows make great options.

2. Red Lipstick for spring, who knew? Well if you want to show off your pout like the girls on the runways did, red is a must. But fear not, there are plenty of sheer and juicy options if you can’t commit to a full coverage matte red. Our favorites are Stila Cherry Crush lip and cheek stain, Paula Dorf Lipstick in Spunky and theBalm Plump My Pucker in Spike My Punch.

3. False Eyelashes! Do yourself a favor and come in for a lesson, once you wear a pair you will want to put them on even just for errands! OK, maybe not, but you will want to wear them out on the town. We have lots of styles ranging from doe-eyed to totally glam. Manda loves the #704″s because they make your eyes look flirty and romantic, great for brides.

4. Buy something yellow, it is a big color this season. If you feel too big bird in head to toe, try a cute handbag, a scarf or maybe some sandals, or even some gold nail polish or eye shadow.

I will be getting my pedicure this week with Nars Schiap nail polish, the prettiest rouge pink ever and breaking out the sandals, even if it snows! xoxox

I don’t know about you but I have had ENOUGH of the bad news on the economy. OK we get it, the world is in a deep financial crisis. Well just what exactly are we supposed to do besides run for office and fix all the messes! I can’t run for office, I don’t like wearing pantsuits and sensible shoes. So I am going to do what I do best, buy a new lipstick and gloss! OK, maybe the matching liner too. One of life’s great little pleasures is opening a brand new lipstick, every woman I know feels the same way. It’s just a little luxury that we deserve since we have to make all of the important decisions in life.

So when you see me be sure comment on my Hot New Lips! xoxox- Andrea

So here we are in February, we need like a Trillion dollars to fix the economy and according to some groundhog in Pennsylvania we are stuck with 6 more weeks of cold dreary winter. So what can a diva do to survive until strappy sandal season finally arrives? Little treats that make us look and feel brighter! I am into facial masks, fun lip colors, and freshly manicured nails.

Trust me, dewy skin, shiny nails and a new lipstick can get a girl out of those doldrums every time! I am in love with the new NARS lipstick in Shrinagar, I have no idea where that is but the color is a perfect pinky plum. So for the next 6 weeks you will find me drenching my skin in moisturizing masks and painting my nails while I watch Lost and think about Sawyer getting too much sun. xoxox

You’ve got to come in and try these awesome new products! The new moisturizer is full of minerals and is free of parabens, synthetic fragrances and artificial oils. The facial mist instantly rehydrates thirsty skin and can be used to set your bareMinerals, refresh in the afternoon or as a toner before the moisturizer! Both now available at rouge!

Rouge Cosmetics’ Top Ten Tips for Holiday Beauty

1. Invest in a great red lipstick for your holiday parties. Our makeup artists can find your perfect shade and show you how to apply it so it stays flawless all night.

2. Learn how to create the Smokey-eye look, whether you want soft or dramatic, we can teach you in just a few minutes.

3. Get yourself a great eye cream, the eyes can show fatigue and stress very easily, and the right formula can take down puffiness, soften fine lines and soothe tired eyes.

4. Embrace shimmer! When it is applied strategically, a little shimmer can make a huge difference in helping to make your skin glow and highlight your features naturally.

5. If you are going to splurge on something, make it makeup brushes. Hand cut, quality brushes make the difference between looking made-up and looking naturally beautiful. Ask any makeup artist and they will tell you it is all about the brushes!

6. Preparing your skin before applying makeup is essential. A foundation primer applied over your moisturizer and eye cream will make your makeup go on better and stay fresh looking all day.

7. Treat yourself to a facial mask at least once a week. Depending on your specific skin-type, a mask can soothe and re-hydrate stressed skin. It is a wonderful way to get ready for any holiday get together and can make a huge difference in your glow factor!

8. Find your perfect scent, and layer it. Start in the shower with a scented shower gel, then immediately apply the complimentary body cream and finish with a light spritz of the perfume. This will help your fragrance to wear longer and not overwhelm.

9. Don’t forget your hands! Apply a great hand and nail cream at least twice daily, and be sure to pay particular attention to your cuticles. When you give yourself a manicure, apply a base coat, 2 coats of the nail color and a great top coat. Let each layer dry for 1 minute before applying the next.

10. Smile! A beautiful white smile is the best beauty trick of all, so use a great tooth whitener and flash those pearly whites for a memorable Holiday season.

From easy gift-giving to makeup applications for any special occasion we can help you enjoy your holidays. From all of us at rouge cosmetics we wish you a happy and beautiful holiday season.
